Motocross Action Magazine Decal
Yes, this is an original one, from the 1970’s.
At one time you could write to them and ask (beg) for decals.
I am glad I did.

Derbi Variant (1983)
Derbi Variant moped from Barcelona, Spain. I worked as a consultant to this company to help them sell scooters and mopeds in the USA. We got our moped in the Wargames movie. In this picture Ally Sheedy is driving our moped and Matthew Broderick is chasing after her.
Yes, this is “Product placement” in movies at it’s earliest years. Interesting note, Mike Bell the motocrosser did product placement for Oakley when he retired from racing motocross.

Motorcycles for the Trails and the Road
By JONATHAN WELSH
Wall Street Journal 01-29-09
What Is It: A new group of off-road-style motorcycles are leaving the dirt trails and hitting the pavement. These dual-purpose or dual-sport bikes look like hard-core motocross machines because of their wheel spokes and tall suspensions, but they are designed to perform on the road as well as off. Riders increasingly find that their light weight and small single-cylinder engines make them nimble, fun to ride and inexpensive to operate. (Urban messengers have used “DP” bikes for years because they slip easily though slow traffic and their tall, springy suspensions handle rough streets.)
Yamaha Hits $1 Million Mark In Funds To Support Ducks Unlimited
Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., has reached a significant milestone supporting hunting and wetland conservation through a long-standing relationship with Ducks Unlimited (DU). As an official licensee of DU since 2004, Yamaha Outdoors has contributed more than $1 million in support of DU’s wetland conservation efforts.
“Yamaha is more involved in the outdoors industry than any other ATV manufacturer, and that’s because of our commitment to the people who use our products,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha’s ATV/SxS group marketing manager.

Sears Mini-bike (1970’s)
OK, go ahead and laugh. This is was what mini-bikes meant to us when we were growing up! I found this picture on a mini-bike web site. I can’t believe how many hits I get on Google when searching for goofy things for this project.
Any ways, Sears was selling bikes just like this one. I believe they were made by Rupp. It has a foot pedal that you jam a steel block into the back tire to stop it! Oh, back then there were not any motorcycle helmets as you know of like today. My Dad gave me one of his ancient football helments. Yes, it was a leather one!

Steve McQueen (USA)
Too many motorcycles!
It seems like I was in good company, loving this little Solex. Here’s Steve McQueen riding around on his during the film shoot of LeMans movie. I ended up owning a bunch of these Solex devils. I really learned how to trick them out. I made tuned expansion chambers, learned the basics of porting cylinders, how to jet two-strokes, and had the best of fun riding these around before they became a “motorized” vehicle and you needed to get them registered etc.
